Magic Happens When You Engage In An Impossible Dream

July 19th, 2007

When Grand Master Jhoon Rhee, the ‘Father of American Taekwondo’, called and invited me to go to New York City to hear his address to the United Nations, I felt that I should go. It wasn’t convenient and it was expensive, and yet I felt I should go. I left the next day! Grand Master Rhee was moved by my coming at the last minute. He told me he now knew who I was…a warrior. When I shared with him that I intended to compete for a spot on the new U.S. Taekwondo Team in technique, he invited me to come to Korea with him and that he would get me the best instructor in the world to train me. Two weeks later I was in Korea. I got to train at the Korean National Taekwondo Academy, Kukkiwon with Grand Master Chong Kwan Lee, who ‘never does private lessons’. He taught me two private lessons. I learned more from him about Taekwondo technique and forms in those three hourse than I had in the last twenty years. Everything about the trip was magical. Last week at the U.S. National Taekwondo Championship in San Jose, California, I won two gold medals and qualified for the U.S. National Taekwondo Team Trials in Las Vegas, Nevada, August 2-5. Impossible is magic. Engage in your impossible dream and watch for the magic.
